With the development and progress of the society,it’s more and more remarkable for migrant workers to migrate with their families to cities,with which are increasingly obvious education problems on migrants children in cities.At the same time,these children have been enjoying relative support by the state policies on education in the new cities.Although supported by the state education policies,there are still enormous problems with the migrant children in Chinese learning,especially the extracurricular reading being a great concern.Extracurricular reading is the expansion and continuation of in-class reading,and an inseparable part of reading skills training.This study,based on case studies of migrant children in three schools located in Jiangnan new zone of Licheng District in Quanzhou city,illustrates the real-world situation of extracurricular reading of migrant children.Through interviews and research,the concerns about migrant children’s abilities in extracurricular reading lie in the following aspects:narrow span of reading,lack of suitable reading resources,lack of options,improper reading concepts,short reading time and inefficiency in reading etc.This study contributes to seeking for the reasons behind through four layers,schools,teachers,parents and society respectively.Then it brings up practical strategies and suggestions to motivate interests in extracurricular reading on migrant children,to strengthen guidance on Chinese extracurricular reading and to improve their abilities on reading for the aim to improve the existing problems in Chinese extracurricular reading of migrant children.
