Adhering to enhancing morality and fostering talents as well as all-round development is one of the basic principles for deepening the teaching reform of vocational education.“Educating people” is the eternal theme of vocational education.To promote the reform and development of vocational education in the new era,there is a pressing need for us to learn the way of educating people from Chinese traditional culture.Shandong Province is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization.Both the Confucianism founded by Confucius and Mencius and the ideas proposed by Mo-tse,Zhuangzi and Xunzi have played a significant role in the history of China and exerted far-reaching impact on world civilization.The educational thoughts of Confucius as the Greatest Sage and Teacher,and Mo-tse as the Scientific Sage have laid cultural foundation for the development of vocational education.As the representative of farmers and workers,Mo-tse proposed taking cultivating people with universal love as the target to materialize the ultimate idea of loving each other and benefiting each other.And he advocated labor and saving the world through education.Taking natural science knowledge,thinking training and practical skills as what to teach,Mo-tse emphasized active teaching,active learning,unity of aspiration and achievement,and unity of righteousness and benefit.Eventually,Mo-tse successfully cultivated numerous excellent talents,namely Qin Guli,Geng Zhuzi,Gong Shangguo,Gao Sunzi and Shui Chaozi.Currently,there are still some deficiencies during educating people in vocational education of China,such as low educational consciousness of subject teachers,low enthusiasm of the employees engaged in students’ affairs,low responsibility consciousness of the students in vocational schools and insufficient integration of craftsmanship spirit.Mo-tse’s thoughts on educating people are of strong reference value and practical significance for the reform and development of modern vocational education.The introduction is mainly composed of the reasons for selecting such a topic,definitions of the relevant concepts,literature review,and research methods adopted in the said research and its significance as well,all of which constitute the foundationof the study.The core body of the research is divided into three chapters.The first chapter expounds the way of educating people,which analyzes and discusses Mo-tse’s thoughts on educating people from five aspects and formed a systematic theory framework.The four parts are respectively Mo-tse’s theory on educating people serving as an immortal example for later generations as well as the foundation for Mo-tse’s thoughts on educating people,unique purpose and target of educating people,universal education objects showing the concept of equality and commonweal value,scientific and practical contents of educating people,and connotation-rich principles and methods for educating people.The second chapter analyzes the deficiencies in educating people of the current vocational education.Through the survey into the three aspects of education subjects,education objects and education process,it has been understood that low educational consciousness of the subject teachers,low responsibility consciousness of the students in vocational schools and insufficient integration of craftsmanship spirit have restrained the development of modern vocational education.The third chapter discusses the enlightenment of Mo-tse’s educational thoughts on vocational education.This part mainly deals with the enlightenment of Mo-tse’s educational thoughts from three aspects,i.e.enhancing the educational consciousness of subject teachers,the social responsibility consciousness of the students in vocational schools,the integration of craftsman spirit and the methods of educating people during vocational education.
