YUI HSUN WOO is a famous scientist and educationist in the modern China. Having spent more than twenty years directly in the development of Chinese Higher Education, he cultivated a number of talented physicists who have dedicated their knowledge and skills to the development of Chinese science and education. Moreover, he had been selected as the dean of department of Physics in Tsinghua University, the director of the Science department in Tsinghua University and Southwest Associated University as well as the president of Central University. All these experiences proved that he is an outstanding person who not only has some rich thoughts about higher education but also has a great capability in running higher education. However, according to the previous research, most of which, focus on the aspects of his scientific and physical educational thoughts. Thus, it is valuable to start a research that can combine all his important higher educational thoughts and practical activities together.This paper is going to review what kind of contributions that Mr. Woo has made to the Chinese higher education, including his great impact on the development of physics, his effective way of training innovative talents and his profound influence in the history of Central University. The study built the system of his higher educational thoughts and practical activities based on using the historical documents method and interview.The research falls into five parts. The first part introduces the background of the research and makes the analysis on some previous research papers. Meanwhile, the framework of the research as well as the research methods has been designed. The second part summarized Mr. Woo's life experience and introduced his scientific achievements in verifying incontestably the validity of the Compton Effect when he was studying for his doctoral degree in university of Chicago. The third part analyzed his methods of cultivating innovative talents through observing his teaching experiences in both Tsinghua University and Southwest Associated University. The fourth part contains his higher educational philosophy and university governance strategy in running Central University. His pursuit for independent of education and academic independent as well as his series of advanced governance strategy made him as the most influential president in the history of Central University. The last part focuses on the guidance and inspiration of Woo's ideas for today's higher education developments in terms of the innovative talents and some common principles regarding to development of Chinese universities.
