A Cognitive Study On The Supernormal Collocation Of Noun Measure Words In Modern Chinese

The rich and varied quantifiers reflect the distinctive features of the Chinese language which distinguish from other language systems.During the long history of the Chinese language,quantifiers have settled down to relatively stable rules of use,however,there are still some usage out of the norm in actual use.These supernormal use phenomenon presents the contradictory conflict superficially,actually has the deep level agreement.Based on the theory of cognitive linguistics,this paper analyzes and explains the expression,working mechanism and aesthetic effect of the unconventional collocation of noun-measure words in modern Chinese.Unconventional is the abnormal phenomenon.The unconventional collocation of modern Chinese noun-measure words deviates from the traditional language rules and generates new expressions,but the variation is not random,it can be divided into two categories according to the position of variation:The variation point in the noun-measure word and the variation point in the central component,the logical relationship among the content of quantifier position,the content of central element position and the real description object of the speaker in the context also provides the basis for the classification of the super-normal collocation.The unconventional collocation of noun-measure words in modern Chinese reflects people’s basic way of knowing the world to some extent,and the theory of Metaphor and metonymy in cognitive linguistics provides deep rationality for the unconventional expression.There are various mapping relationships between the noun-measure words and the central component.For this classification,we can construct six working mechanisms of the unconventional collocation of the noun-measure words,which are three types of metaphor mechanisms:the source domain exists the target domain hides,the target domain exists the source domain hides,both source and target domains are present,and the three types of metonymy mechanisms:the tenor exists the intermediary hides,the intermediary exists the tenor hides,both tenor and intermediary are present.The measure function of noun-measure words in the super-normal collocation is weakened,and more prominent is an aesthetic function.Compared with the conventional usage,the super-conventional collocation of noun-measure words has more intense aesthetic expression,rendering vivid image beauty,strong emotional beauty,unique impact beauty,deep convergence beauty of implication.
