The Republic of China was an important period for the birth and growth of the Chinese record industry.The gramophones and records were introduced to China at the end of the 19th century and developed prosperously.The record industry was formed in the first half of the 20th century.Record companies were boomed to establish and a large number of traditional music were preserved through making a disc,which promoted the transformation of the spreading mode of the music.In the 1930s,the vigorous development of the record industry reached its peak,and it also stimulated the birth and growth of Chinese pop music.During the war of resistance,the record industry experienced twists and turns,and declined even.After the war,they started again,promoting the recovery of the new Chinese music industry.The prosperity of the record industry stimulates economic progress,gaining the music more commercial value,free from entertainment bounds and furthering industrial transformation,which opens a new chapter for the development of modern Chinese music."Shenbao" is one of the earliest and most influential newspapers in Shanghai.The historical materials about music,which were detailed recorded and had substantial content,have significance in studying the history of music industry.The article objectively summarizes the historical material of the record industry during the Republic of China and systematically grasps the realistic contents reflected in the historical materials of the Republic of China from the "ShenBao",analyzes the characteristics of the era of the record industry,the content of the record,the distribution and development of record companies,etc.,to study the real Shanghai record industry.
