| "The China Press" is the first American English language newspaper to be published in China in modern times.It was founded by American professional journalist Thomas Miller in Shanghai in 1911.In 1930,"The China Press" was acquired by Chinese,and was forced to suspend publication after the outbreak of the Pacific War in December1941.It resumed publication after the victory of the Anti Japanese War in 1945 and finally ceased publication in 1949.It was a comprehensive daily newspaper that held an important position in the modern Shanghai news industry for a total of 38 years.The content published by "The China Press" is very extensive,including political,economic,cultural and other news at home and abroad."The China Press" does not have a dedicated music page,but it carries a lot of music related content.This article selects the historical music materials of the "The China Press" from1930 to 1941 as the research content.Through systematic collection,translation,collation,analysis,and other methods of historical materials,it borrows relevant theories such as history and sociology to conduct research on them,in order to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of them.This article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter summarizes the three major types of music historical materials in "The China Press",namely,music news reports,music literary theories,and music images.Among them,music news reports focused on various music activities in Shanghai at that time.Music literary theory includes two categories: music reviews and music theory articles.Music reviews mainly focused on concert performances in Shanghai at that time,while music theory articles were an introduction to Chinese and foreign music culture.Music images were news documentary images of Shanghai’s music events at that time,mainly featuring photos of musicians and music events.In the second and third chapters,I introduce the two major media fields related to Chinese and foreign music and culture,which are involved in "The China Press".Among them,the report on Chinese music is divided into three dimensions: traditional music,new music,and the integration of Chinese and foreign music,from which we can see the development of Chinese music culture during this period.The report on Western music is divided into three parts: the activities of foreign musicians,music groups in Shanghai,and Western heterogeneous music culture.From this,we can see the dissemination of Western music culture in China during this period.The fourth chapter is a summary of the characteristics and significance of the music historical materials of "The China Press".Overall,the music historical materials of "Mainland Daily" reflect three basic characteristics: detailed and accurate historical materials,connecting China and foreign countries,and appreciating both refined and popular tastes.At the same time,it reflects the important theoretical and practical significance of the music historical materials of the "The China Press" in the fields of modern Chinese music history research,Shanghai urban music culture research,and other fields from its historical materials and historical events. |
