Research objectiveThe treatment method for this study was Three-circle Post Standing Qigong. The subjects were college students who has spinal imbalance in upright position. The study analyzed the angle between the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae of spine, the static balance of the plantar pressure, the changes of the angle between spine with static balance of the foot, and the balance of the biomechanical characteristics of spine.Research methodsAccording to the experimental criteria,60 junior students from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Dongfang College were randomly divided into two groups according to the1:1 ratio. The experimental group received the Three-circle Post Standing Qigong for 14 weeks, five times per week,50 minutes each time. The control group did not receive any treatment, only parallel to the experimental group with blank control to ensure the successful completion of the experiment. The research period was 16 weeks, including the base line period of 2 weeks and the training period of 14 weeks. The physiological curvature of the coronal upright spine was used as an effective index to regulate the spinal balance, and the evaluation was completed three times from the baseline stage to the end of the intervention. That is,0 weeks(base line period),8 weeks(6 weeks after tutoring training)and 14 weeks(12weeks after tutoring training). The regulating effect of Three-circle Post Standing Qigong work on spinal balance and biomechanical characteristics were observed.Research results1.Prior to the treatment, there was no significant difference in the absolute value of the vertebral body between the two groups(P>0.05).After eight weeks, angles between vertebral bodies Th8/Th9,Th10/Th11,L4/L5,L5/S1 in the experimental group were lower than that before the treatment(P<0.05),and comparing with the control group in similar time, the angles between vertebral bodies Th9/Th10,L2/L3,L3/L4,L5/S1 in the experimental group were decreasing(P<0.05).The control group's Th9/Th10,L1/L2,L3/L4 was increased compared to that before the test(P<0.05).Fourteen weeks after the experiment, anglesbetween vertebral bodies Th6/Th7-Th10/Th11,L5/S1 in the experimental group remained the same from eight weeks of the experiment, and angles between vertebral bodies L2/L3 were decreased. For the control group, angles of vertebral bodies L3/L4,were higher than that before intervention(P<0.05).2.Prior to the treatment, there was no significant difference in left spinal flexion between the two groups(P>0.05).left spinal flexion of lower thoracic vertebrae Th1/Th2-Th4/Th5 in the experimental group was slightly lower than the control group.Eight weeks after the treatment, left spinal flexion of the upper thoracic vertebra Th1/Th2-Th3/Th4 of the experimental group increased, which show similar aspects with the control group.Experimental group's left spinal flexion of lower thoracic vertebrae Th12/L1 and upper lumbar L1/L2,L3/L4 was higher than the control group(P>0.05).14 weeks after the treatment, left spinal flexion of Th1/Th2,Th2/Th3 in the experimental group got higher in general(P>0.05).3.Prior to the treatment, there was no significant difference in right spinal flexion activity between the two groups(P>0.05).Experimental group's right spinal flexion of middle thoracic vertebrae Th5/Th6,Th6/Th7 and the lumbar L1/L2-L5/S1 was comparably lower than the control group(P>0.05).Eight weeks after the treatment, the experimental group's middle thoracic vertebrae L3/L4,L4/L5 showed significantly higher flexibility than those before the experiment(P<0.05).Experimental group's right spinal flexion of L2/L3-L4/L5 was higher than the control group(P<0.05).14 weeks after the treatment, the experimental group's right spinal flexion of Th6/Th7 and L3/L4,L4/L5 was higher than those before the experiment(P<0.05).Also,the experimental group's right spinal flexion of Th6/Th7,L2/L3-L4/L5 was higher than the control group(P<0.05).4.Prior to the treatment, there was no significant difference between two group's superficie totale(P>0.05).Eight weeks after the treatment, the experimental group's left and right foot load difference and total area were lower than before the treatment(P<0.05),and clearly lower than the control group(P<0.05).14 weeks after the treatment, the experimental group's left and right foot load difference and total area got clearly lower than eight weeksafter the treatment(P<0.05).Furthermore,that measurement was much lower than the control group(P<0.05),and the superficie totale slightly got small(P>0.05).5.Prior to the treatment, two group's Total Traveled Way(TTW),90% confidence Ellipse Area(EA),and X and Y-axis did not have clear difference(P>0.05).Eight weeks after the treatment, the experimental group's TTW,EA and X-axis,Y-axis had clear difference from prior to the treatment(P>0.05).EA and X-axis,Y-axis value were both much lower than the control group(P<0.05).14 weeks after the treatment, experimental group's EA and X-axis,Yaxis value got much lower compared with before the treatment(P<0.05),and lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).Research conclusions1.Three-circle Post Standing Qigong is beneficial to restore and maintain the phy siological balance of the coronal spine, strengthen the stability of the spine in the upri ght position, and improve the range of the coronal plane of the spine.2.Three-circle Post Standing Qigong strengthens individual's consciousness of “bodyregulating”and cultivate the ability to adjust the body balance independently.
