This study is an empirical study on the social management and image presentation of middle-aged and elderly users in social media.Today, with the increasing variety and number of social media, users have more and more choices, and a significant number of them are active on multiple social platforms at the same time,as a whole,a "poly-social-media context" is formed by different or overlapping media availability. At the same time, the rapid iteration of media types has reduced the life cycle of social platforms, and the intelligentization of media technologies and the convenience of media operations have also contributed to a decline in the age group of users,in the noisy network society, the social presence of middle-aged and elderly users provides an independent space for their platform definition and image dissemination. This study was conducted by the concept of platform-swing,which is put forward by Edson C.Tandoc Jr.The concept is used to describe the operation behavior of users rotating between different platforms, and will be used to measure the accuracy of describing the middle-aged and old users in China after local verification.Secondly, this research will use Meyrowitz's media scene theory and Tumi's identity negotiation theory as the theoretical basis to analyze user behavior and image building, the aim is to answer the question of how middle-aged and elderly users manage their social relationships and self-image in different types of social platforms. The purpose of this study is to compare the social media use of 27middle-aged and elderly users in the target community with their real-life images in the social interaction between acquaintances and strangers. Finally, based on the survey results, this paper summarizes the platform swing, platform definition and identity negotiation of middle-aged and elderly users from the perspective of multimedia. In the survey of 27 middle-aged and elderly social media users,it was found that their media exposure was positive, their media use behavior was basically out of the "digital feedback" stage,in addition, they have a clear social boundary between acquaintances and strangers, and can use the media according to their functions and styles. They can also manage and shape their images in different social platforms. This study is of great significance to reflect the media use behavior of the middle-aged and elderly users in the new era,and provides experience for the development of the media market.
