In the 1940s,the Shanxi-Gansu-Ningxia border area were faced with a complete blockade by the Kuomintang(China Nationalist Party)authorities,especially in terms of press and propaganda.Journalists were forbidden to enter Yan 'an for interviews and they claimed that the Communist Party of China were passive in resisting Japan,disobeyed the command,and attacked friendly Kuomintang.In order to find the truth,foreign journalists asked the China Nationalist Party authorities to visit Yan 'an.Harrison was a typical representative.He was the first man to submit application to the Kuomintang in November 1943.In May 1944,a group of Chinese and foreign journalists visited Yan 'an.After on-the-spot investigation,He compiled a book named Report from red China which described what he had seen.The real face of the Communist Party could be publicized in the international community,which had a profound influence at that time.Based on the news activities of Harrison in China,this paper studies influence and effect of Harrison's news practice in China,as a correspondent he reports of Communist Party and reports China under the premise of news blockade of the Kuomintang.The research of this paper mainly includes seven chapters.The first chapter is introduction of which mainly introduces the basic situation including the collation of literature.The second is introduction of Harrison,mainly focusing on his exploration experience in Tibetan areas.What is more noteworthy is that he had direct contact with the living Buddha at that time.The third summarizes he work as a correspondent for New York times to report about current situation in China,mainly including the economy,war,American military volunteers and so on.The fourth introduces the process of the northwest press corps.Chapter five summarizes trip with press corps,and personally interviewed MAO Zedong,Zhu De and other leaders,he made comprehensive and true introduction about Communist Party.Chapter six mainly introduces "Report form red China",which truly records the Chinese CommunistParty and they resist against Japanese aggression,thus effectively refuting the false propaganda of the China Nationalist Party.The last chapter takes Harrison's journalistic practice and explores the professional and spiritual attitude behind it,especially the external professional aspects of journalism which are worth learning by current journalists.
