| In 2019,in the context of Sino-US trade frictions and trend of competition between EU and China,Central and Eastern Europe(CEE)countries have also suffered certain influence and pressure on their cooperation with China.Within the"17+1 Cooperation",Croatia shows significance not only in its geographic location, but also in its historical and cultural influence in the Balkans region.Croatia is the first country in the region to join the EU,and other countries in the region are all in the accession process. Thus, studying Croatia is important to the deployment of"17+1"cooperation.Just as cognition affects people's judgments and actions, mutual cognition of different countries affects the depth and breadth of their cooperation. Therefore, this article takes China's national image as an entry point, seeking to explore a better path for cross-cultural communication.Frame analysis, qualitative analysis, and historical analysis are conducted on China-related reports from 2001 to 2019(19 full years)in Croatia's evening post Ve?ernji List, one of the country's most influential mainstream newspapers,to analyze the image of China constructed by the newspaper from a cross-cultural perspective.Furthermore, the China-related reports on Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic from 1st December 2019 to 31st March 2020,will be specifically reviewed.Statistically speaking,Ve?ernji List has gradually increased its coverage of China since2009,and the content has become more comprehensive year by year, constructing a relatively positive image of China, describing the Nation as an economic power and a defender of global cooperation and economic globalization. However, some misunderstandings caused by differences in political values are still reflected, and China's image in this newspaper is unbalanced.China needs to apply cross-cultural thinking in conducting dialogues with CEE countries including Croatia. |
