Pulsed power technology is used to compress electromagnetic energy in dimensions of time and space,and finally obtain an explosive output in a very short time.In last century,this technology was firstly applied in research of high energy physics,gradually drew a lot of attention of defense agencies in different countries,and has a great strategic value for national defense construction,now it also has a wide use in civil field.Peak power,peak voltage,half pulse width are important parameters for high voltage pulse generator,with the development of science and technology nowadays,new requirement is raised such as all-solid-state,high-repetition frequency and miniaturization.To fulfill the requirement of defense and civil field for high voltage and high repetition frequency pulse generator,this paper does some work on national important instrument manufacturing major project “Development of solid-state megahertz picosecond-level pulse generator with high voltage and high repetition-frequency” support by national natural science fund,designs a new pulse width compression solution to decrease the width of the pulse output by the generator we have developed before.In our previous research,the method of applying non-linear transmission lines(NLTL)to produce soliton waves lacks stability,with a lot of oscillation caused by solitons which didn't separate from each other completely,not meeting our requirement.And this paper would take advantage of the characteristic of NLTL,which could steepen the pulse front edge;besides,rapid reverse recovery diodes are introduced to this solution,to cut off the pulse back edge,due to the short reverse recovery time and the huge reverse current of the diode,avoiding the disadvantage of NLTL which could broaden the back edge.This paper would design our new pulse compression circuit from 2 aspects,NLTL and diode's reverse recovery.In NLTL circuit design,we would adjust the number of units and the parameters of elements,and summarize the general principle,steeping the pulse front edge from 140 ns to 18 ns,compression proportion is 7.77:1.For the purpose of cutting off the back edge,we start with the mechanism,and establish its equal circuit model,using numerical method to analyze the feasibility of applying the diode's principle.And then,we adjust the parameters of the elements in the circuit in simulation,and test the pulse back edge cut-off module based on DSRD pulse module.Now we have accomplished a pulse generator with 8000 V peak voltage,400 kHz repetition frequency and 200 ns pulse width,and we also design a new pulse step and compression method based on DSRD fast turn-off devices,reducing pulse width from 2.3 ns to 2.15 ns.
