| The theory of grid system is a concept that is figured out by the western academia.In fact,China is the earliest country that has the prototype of "grid system",with the emergence of paper making and lithography,although it is only reflected in application.This thesis not only clarifies some special terms but also discusses the history and the origin of the grid system.Going back to history,investigating changes and comparing China and West are solely the processes of researching into history.Abstracting the essence of Chinese history and that of foreign countries is merely the way of finding their differences and similarities.The basis of the paper is the application of grid system which is used in contemporary journal's design.This paper selects the domestic periodical — Vision Magazine and the foreign journal — Wallpaper,for the purpose of analyzing on a case-by-case basis.The thesis interprets how Chinese academic periodicals understand and use the grid system.It also indicates the development of grid system from the beginning to the era of reform and opening up and,eventually to the recent20 years.To sum up the already mentioned reasons,the author safely draw a conclusion that the grid system,as an rule invented by Chinese creators,has its origin of the revolution derived from Chinese design.Meanwhile,this paper extracts some samples from some Chinese influential academic periodicals for the sake of simultaneously analyzing and comparing grid systems,too.The article deeply analyzes the application of grid systems and the possibility of "boundary" from the most basic layout settings to typographic styles,colors,and strategies for contingency.After combining results of investigations,studies and researches,the author chose the Xu Bangda Art Gallery's journal called Xin yuan as a typical example.The author further investigates the importance of the grid system for its use in contemporary periodical's design,which is a new dimension — practical operation. |
