Study On The Image Of Hearing Impaired Group Based On People's Daily Media Matrix

The mass media reports on the hearing impaired group reflect their social status and related social culture.As China with the largest hearing impaired population,it is important to clarify the media coverage and image presentation of the hearing impaired group.As a mainstream media,People's Daily has high influence and perfect media matrix.Its news content affects the public's cognition of the hearing impaired group.Based on the Frame theory,this paper analyzed the media matrix content of the paper publication,Weibo platform,WeChat official account platform and short video platform of People's Daily from 1946 to 2019,and it interpreted the text changes of People's Daily by combining Van Dijk's Discourse analysis theory,so as to provide a path for the development of Disabled cause from a media perspective.From the content of the reports,the number of reports on hearing impaired group was relatively small;the subject of the report was mainly about government,the medical subject became social and charitable subject;the report paid insufficient attention to the elderly hearing-impaired,and the gender proportion changed from a focus on men to gender balance,and the new media platform reports presented gender bias.In the media discourse changes of hearing impaired group,the key words appeared gradually from "deaf-mute" to "hearing-impaired";the rhetoric style experienced the change from "iron tree blossoming" to "antenna baby";the discourse narrative presented three narrative styles: treatment mode,care mode and emotion mode.Through the presentation of content and text,in the paper I found that the media image of the hearing impaired group showed four prominent characteristics: the concentrated marginal group,the typical characters with outstanding achievements,the vulnerable group assisted and helped,and the stereotype of physiological discrimination.Behind these media features were the People's Daily's agenda-setting,stigma and metaphor,and the operation and discipline of knowledge power for the hearing impaired group.Regarding the agenda setting for the hearing impaired group,the People's Daily presented two mechanism modes: information agenda-setting and attributes agenda-setting,which increased the marginal status of hearing impaired group.In the stigma and metaphor of the hearing impaired group,the violence of explicit language signs no longer exists,but some reports still have the problems of unconscious discrimination and metaphor.In the operation and discipline of knowledge power,due to the limited news information resources of the hearing impaired group and less contact with the general public,the cost of news producers to obtain the news information of hearing impaired group increased,which in turn made the reports with different structures for the similar content.In the production process of media ecology,the discourse power of hearing impaired group became weak,which made the audience cannot receive complete information,and the feedback information of other media or individuals was not comprehensive enough,thus resulting in multiple deprivations of the discourse power of hearing impaired group.However,with the rise of new media platforms,People's Daily began to change the traditional form of discourse and actively establish a consultation dialogue with the public.Hearing impaired group also reported from multiple classes,which reflects the improvement of their social status.Based on the above problems,this paper puts forward two suggestions: the narrative frame from the perspective of eliminating binary opposition and the empowerment frame from the perspective of eliminating medical care.Through the perspective of eliminating the binary opposition between the disabled and non-disabled,and the physical and mental,we can make report with a more macro narrative way.Through the perspective of eliminating treatment mode and care mode,we can carry out a more in-depth and empowering report.
