Based on a three-month field study,this paper obtained a large number of first-hand materials about a high school library.I organized the materials in the form of narrative inquiry,and discussed the position of school libraries in school education.The total field data is divided into three parts.First of all,from 2017 to 2019,I find that the high school library show a trend of being marginalized in this school and face widespread confusion about the relationship with school classroom education.Through the research of relevant literature,this dissertation holds that it is a profound perplexity about the relationship between library and education,which has always existed from the history.Through the research of relevant literature,this dissertation holds that it is a profound perplexity about the relationship between library and education,which has always existed from the history.The second part,I found that at the beginning of the 20 th century,this library has a short history of benign and harmony relationship with school education process.Then I traced similar cases about relationship between library and school education,to prove that school libraries and school education are not doomed to repel each other,and further put forward the issue of the relationship between them.The third part investigates the changes of the school library in the past decades,from which it can be argued that the changing of the library is the reflect of that of school education.Combined with the related historical facts,I reckon the relationship between school library and school education is decided by the contradiction between teaching and learning.Because of its emphasis on students' learning,school library contradicts with the traditional fragmented education which takes teachers' teaching as its center.How a school library exists depends on how the education environment see and practice the contradiction between teaching and learning.The conclusion of this paper is that high school libraries face the difficulties of survival in the school environment,behind which lies the confusion about the relationship between school library and school education.Since the 21 st century,Chinese school libraries have experienced decline of value with the development and reform of high school education.As modern classroom instruction since Comenius is the representation of modernity,it has the dominant nature to society.The relationship between school library and school education is metaphorically the relationship between heterotopia and utopia.
