The evolution of the fifth-generation mobile communication technology has always been a hot spot for the public and the media. At the same time,5G issues with scientific nature have also become the focus of media reports in various countries. What are the similarities and differences in content presentation and expression skills between the news reports of the 5G networks of the United States as a technological powerhouse and China as a 5G rookie? What are the causes of these reported differences? Are there any deficiencies in the media's news coverage of the 5G network? How can we learn from each other's experience to improve reporting? This study explores the above issues through a comparative analysis of the Chinese and American mainstream media, the People's Daily and the New York Times. In terms of the content of these newspapers,a large number and important sections show the importance of 5G issues. In terms of the subject area and distribution of emotional tone, the People's Daily attaches importance to national achievements and positive reports,The Times has more global construction and neutral coverage. When researching the performance skills of these reports,it was found that,in terms of source selection and discourse strategy, the People's Daily relies heavily on official sources and “one-sided reminders”,while the “New York Times” has more expert sources and more “two-sided” prompt".In terms of the narrative features of the report, the People's Daily has more macro introductions, while the New York Times focuses on micro descriptions. In addition, both newspapers showed strong interest in China's 5G,but carried out different material arrangements. The People's Daily chose to construct actively, while the New York Times chose to express negatively. The main reasons for the differences between the two media reports are internally due to the differences in newspaper operating concepts and media operating systems, and externally due to the differences in political and economic interests such as their special political contexts and intense trade competition.Studies show that relative to the New York Times,Chinese People 's Daily related articles on 5G issues show more deficiencies, mainly including too much preaching content presentation, excessive reliance on official sources, and too hard narrative methods And excessively weak external communication mechanisms. In this regard, the research suggests that we must strengthen our reflection on rational discussions, and also pay attention to the balanced interaction of science and democracy. We also need to focus on adding style narrative close to life, and strive to build a communications fleet that represents China's image and spread China's 5G.
