The Study On The Communication Characteristics Of China-Related "Chip Report" In New York Times

With the rapid improvement of China’s comprehensive national power,China has made many outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology.For example,in recent years,China has broken through the technical blockade in the field of "chip technology" and made great progress.The "chip" technology,for China,is a vital pillar to develop new technologies such as artificial intelligence,quantum computing and 5G,and it is also one of the core domains of Sino-US strategic competition.So American media pay more and more attention to China’s scientific and technological development,especially to the "chip" manufacturing field which is of great significance in international competition.It is discovered that the relevant reports on China’s "chip technology" in the New York Times disagree with the facts and are full of prejudice.The analysis of problems existing in relevant China-related reports will help to understand the American mainstream media’s attitudes and views towards the rise of China’s science and technology,and it will also help to improve the national science and technology image of China under foreign media reports;This paper first discusses the basic characteristics of the New York Times’ report on China’s "chip" science and technology development from four aspects: reporting stage,basic composition,communication orientation and news text form;Next,it makes a concrete analysis of the deep-rooted reasons of the four characteristics,and comes to a conclusion that the American mainstream media’s China-related reports are influenced by political demands,economic demands,cultural demands and media demands;Then it makes a further analysis of the problems arising from the report,mainly including the problems existing in its reporting concept,framework and method;Finally,it discusses the influence on China’s external communication process under the "biased framework",and puts forward feasible suggestions for rationally responding to the attacks and discredits of American media on behalf of Western media,so as to further improve China’s external news communication level in the new era of national rejuvenation.
