Content Analysis Of Mainstream Media Reports On The Issue Of "Refuse Classification"

At the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the ecological civilization construction was included in the “five-in-one” overall layout of socialism with Chinese characteristics.As an important part of the construction of ecological civilization,waste sorting was also widely concerned by the public.In the process of making,implementing,realizing and improving the "waste sorting" policy,the mainstream media played a connected role between government and the public through the construction and communication of relevant issues.Based on Frame Theory,using the content analysis and literature method,and regarding the news reports relating “waste sorting” in People's Daily as studying objects,this paper focused on the media framing adopted by People's Daily in relevant reports,and point out the remaining deficiencies and improvement strategies,so as to improve the “waste sorting” reports.In terms of content,“waste sorting” reports on People's Daily has seven basic characteristics.In the expressive forms: First,the genre of news being main position,and criticism is played.Second,setting up various columns,and highlighting multidimensional perspectives.Third,the reports on the front pages is predominant,and the special edition focuses on hot-spots.In the content of theme: First,attaching importance to governance measures,and sharing experience and countermeasures.Second,the frequency in the East being the highest,and decreasing in the East,the West and the East.Third,the reporting tone being neutral,and attaching importance to criticism and guidance.Fourth,closing to the official voice,and multi-parties participating in negotiating.The above content features were closely related to the media framing adopted by People's Daily.Specifically embodying: at the microcosmic level of theme frame,for the five different themes of current affairs policy,social problems,governance action,ideology and culture,and experience countermeasures,People's Daily,according to the content and purport of the theme,correspondingly adopted the communicating and interpreting frame,critical and mapping frame,collaboration and effecting frame,propaganda and valuing frame,as well as introducing and multidimensional frame.At the middle level of narrative frame,the plot frame reported flat and straightforward,paying attention to the detail description,while the issue frame reflected multiple perspectives,objective and comprehensive.At the macroscopic level of language frame,the high-frequency words reflected the mainbody with a wide range and the scene narrative with emphasis in the reporting text,as well as the features of various actions and the governance effectiveness highlighted.The image symbols reflected the enhancement of photos sense.Comics improved readability.And chart guaranteed professionalism.The shortcomings of the reports of People's Daily relating “waste sorting”mainly manifested in the following aspects.First,the topic setting being lagging,and the reporting arrangement being out-of-order.Second,the media scrutiny being weak,and the feedback mechanism being lacking.Third,the professional quality being lacking,and the discourse of all parties being out of balance.Therefore,this paper put forward three improvement strategies.First,improving the sensitivity of the topic,and aggregating the content production.Second,enhanced the supervision,and broaden the interactive channels.Third,cultivating professional teams,and balancing discourse expression.
