Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA)systems are commonly used for condition monitoring and real-time data collection in the factory, which should be universal and easy-to-use.This paper takes the SCADA which is applyed in digital workshops as a research object. In order to explore the SCADA system in a machining scenario, some theories of the business-side interactive design are introduced, such as the concept of calm technology design. The purpose of this paper is to improve the human-computer interaction experience of the SCADA system.First, the paper summarizes the current researches based on the domestic and foreign literature and research results.By investigating and analysing the existing SCADA products, the application scenarios and defects are studied.Furthermore,it also conducts the user research according to the target subject, and carries out design practices in combination with field surveys of the manufacturing workshop,in order to obtain the design requirements from key stakeholders, such as operators of the CNCs,equipment operation and maintenance engineers, and production manager, and specific personas are built based on above. Then,a three-tier demand analysis on the corresponding character models is conducted. In addition, the deployment architecture and the main frame of the SCADA system are designed, and the interactive system design is completed according to the core functional task flow.Based on this,it is possible to determine the functional boundary of the system, and a scenario walkthrough of the system functions could be performed by forms of flowchart. That is to clearly define the entire process of the target task from the beginning to the end.According to reasonable interaction behavior logic, the implementation steps of the target task could be decomposed. After the inspection and optimization, the functional modules of subsystems and the business functions could match each other. The system satisfies natural and unobtrusive features, hides the complexity of the underlying system, and establishes a virtual channel between the user and the system to convert user ideas into systemcommands.By analysing the core functions in the machining scenario, the SCADA system described in this research can be disassembled into: system login, machine condition monitoring, alarm and maintenance reminder, new device configuration, knowledge management, and reporting.Based on the above analysis and research, specific SCADA interaction design practices are carried out.To ensure the consistency of interaction design in terms of the design goals, element appearance, interaction behavior, etc.the low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes are established which follow the related design strategies and guidelines.Hopefully, the main idea in this research could make a contribution in the recommendation for the design of data acquisition and process monitoring in other scenarios of digital factories.
