How Does Management Cognition Affect Business Model Innovation?

The slowdown of world economic growth and the rise of trade protectionism have brought more uncertainties to China's economic development,which has entered a new normal.They have also brought new challenges to Chinese enterprises.In order to cope with these challenges,enterprises must establish competitive advantages to gain more profits and maintain normal and sustainable development to achieve corporate growth.In the theoretical circle,innovation has become an inevitable choice for enterprises to break through the existing resource endowment and environmental constraints and create sustainable competitive advantages.As a supplement to traditional sources of innovation,such as product innovation,service innovation and organizational innovation,business model innovation has attracted extensive attention from the academic and practical circles,and also aroused a research upsurge among scholars in the field of strategy.However,the existing scholars' research on the causes of business model innovation is still fragmented and has not yet formed a system.At the same time,there is still insufficient research on the influence mechanism of business model innovation antecedents,which inevitably reduces the theoretical persuasion of business model innovation antecedents and makes it difficult to clearly describe the formation path of business model innovation.The previous research on management cognition is relatively broad,which fails to distinguish the internal relevant classification of the concept of management cognition,so as to explore its different impact on business model innovation.Based on grounded theory,this paper uses the single case of longitudinal analysis of case study method to discuss the above issues,the study found that:(1)based on the distinguish between two types of cognitive change management,management awareness can affect business model innovation through two paths:one is the management of cognitive change lag enable organizations to access to learning,in order to achieve business model innovation;Second,the advance change of management cognition urges the organization to carry on the experimental study in order to realize the business model innovation.(2)management cognition and organizational learning have a coupling relationship that promotes each other.(3)the discovery of the coupling effect between management cognition and organizational learning confirms the potential impact of ordinary employees on business model innovation.The theoretical contribution of this study is mainly reflected in the following four aspects:first,this paper discusses the mechanism of "management cognition-business model innovation",finding that organizational learning plays an intermediary role between management cognition and business model innovation,and deepens the research on management cognition in business model innovation.Secondly,in the process of case investigation and data coding,this paper finds and distinguishes two different changes of management cognition,which makes up for the shortage of dynamic research of management cognition and enriches the theoretical research of management cognition.Thirdly,this study finds that there is a certain coupling relationship between management cognition and organizational learning,which fills the gap of existing researches.Finally,traditional business model innovation research often focuses on the influence of senior managers and ignores the role of ordinary employees in enterprise organizations.In addition,this study provides management enlightenment for enterprises in need of business model innovation.First of all,enterprise managers can consciously guide and motivate organizations to adopt appropriate organizational learning methods according to their own cognitive changes,so as to acquire the necessary organizational capabilities and finally realize the expected business model innovation.Secondly,since there is a certain coupling relationship between management cognition and organizational learning,enterprise managers should attach importance to the voices from within the organization,absorb useful knowledge and views from these voices,and extract their essence to supplement their own management cognition.
