The Shanghai Times was first published in Shanghai,China,by Americans in 1901.At the beginning of its establishment,it conformed to the needs of American expatriates in Shanghai and supported the interests of the United States in the Far East.As an American business newspaper,the newspaper abandoned its character and changed its reporting position several times in order to obtain financial assistance from many countries.In 1914,when Japan aggressively invaded Qingdao and the trend of "excluding Japan" became more and more intense,the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan bought the Shanghai Times as its own propaganda position.After the September 18 th Incident,the newspaper became a puppet newspaper of Japan.Influenced by Japan's economic infiltration,control and monopoly,the Shanghai Times has become an English newspaper controlled by the Japanese since World War I,mobilizing and utilizing the tools of public opinion to publicize Japan's aggressive activities.After the outbreak of the all-round war of aggression against China,the newspaper was completely reduced to the propaganda organ of the Japanese government.It was taken over by the Japanese government after the Pacific War.It was officially suspended in 1944.The Shanghai Times is not only Japan's main propaganda tool in Shanghai during the period of invasion of China,but also an ironclad evidence of Japan's brutal crimes.Under this background,this paper attempts to explore how the Shanghai Times stood in the position of the militarist aggressors during the period from the beginning of the war of aggression against China to the outbreak of the Pacific War,and how it constructed the false images of wartime for Japan,and what false images it constructed,as well as how the Japanese government tried to use the Shanghai Times behind these images to cooperate with its military aggression to propagate public opinion,and then controlled the public opinion environment in the overseas Chinese community at that time.The first part of this article combs the origin of the problem and the research ideas;the second part elaborates the relationship between the Shanghai Times and the modern Japanese official.Through the analysis of the newspaper's birth,reform,management and source of information,it explores how the newspaper was suppressed by the Japanese government in wartime and the reasons;the third part is the Shanghai Times' analysis of the relationship between the newspaper and the modern Japanese official.Research on the propaganda and reporting of Japanese image in the wartime,the newspaper constructed a false image of Japanese militarist "strong army" by beautifying the image of Japanese military image and leader in wartime,reversing black and white,hoping to arouse the war consciousness of Japanese military and civilian;the fourth part is the analysis of the report of the Shanghai Times on Japan and China's diplomatic image.The newspaper constructed a false image of Japanese militarist "strong army".The false peace scene in East Asia has maliciously interfered with the war opinions of the Chinese people and attempted to weaken the resistance determination and will of the Chinese anti-Japanese army and people.Chapter Five places Japan in the international community and analyses the newspaper's reports on Japan's international image in wartime: from the confusion between Japan and German-Italian fascists,to the externality with Britain and the United States,to cover up the fact of aggression,and even to carry out fraudulent propaganda in the international arena,threatening world peace.The Shanghai Times has established a false international image of "getting more help and information" for the Japanese government and even disrupting the international order.The last chapter summarizes the reasons behind the various and distorted reports on the image of Japan in the Shanghai Times,which reflect the propaganda actions of the Japanese government: attempting to inspire the aggressive will of Japanese officers and soldiers by displaying military force,weakening the anti-war sentiment of the Chinese nation by whitewashing the Taiping Taiping Taiping,and even misleading other countries by establishing an international image of "getting more help" in this regard.The objective cognition of unjust war.
