The theme of this thesis is the national image of Japan on Chinese media. For this theme, the thesischooses Global Times (the media of great typicality and authority in our country on internationalcommunication) and “3.11” Earthquake (the critical incident of great significance for the national imageof Japan) as the entrance, the related reports about “3.11” Earthquake on Global Times during March11th2011to March31th2012as the object. Using the content analysis methods, the thesis analyses thedate, the layout, the position, the length, the kind, the object, the topic, the point and the attitude of thesereports, then try to answer the following questions: Q1.How did Global Times cover “3.11” Earthquakein Japan? Q2.What was the national image of Japan like according to these reports?After analysis above, it is found that Global Times has paid more attention on “3.11” Earthquake.Its key topics are economy, society, international relation and politics, and key points are impact andreact. Most of the reports are objective, and the negative attitudes also obvious. The national image ofJapan showed by the reports is summarized as third-largest economy in decline, persevering people indisaster, given object in “disaster diplomacy” and “handbook society” in anger.
