The Examination Of Professtionalism In News Contexts:A Comparative Study

The journalistic professionalism was born in the 19 century,and matured with the development of modern journalism.It then became an occupational and ethical standard of professional news media.Though always being questioned and argued during the past hundreds of years,journalistic professionalism is still seen as the primary principle of the industry.News agencies have to follow it to earn an authoritative and accountable reputation.However,traditional journalism is faced with challenges from developing internet and mobile media equipment nowadays.Thanks to new technologies,User-Generated news takes an upper hand in speed,sources and audiences,when compared with traditional news.Under such a circumstance,will traditional new media still stick to their old standards?This research selected two prestigious news media---Xinhua News Agency and The New York Times,by conducting content-analysis on their reports of the 19^th Party Congress of CPC,we examined the use of journalistic professionalism in their news-composing process.The research finds out that this two media mostly follow the rules of professionalism,even though there's some nonconformity.Though the research cannot come to a conclusion regarding the existence and significance of journalistic professionalism,as an occupational standard,it could be referred to when journalism coming to a turning point,to review and refresh the ideal of journalism,and perhaps help it find out where to go next.That would be the meaning of professionalism.
