With the reform of journalism, journalistic professionalism has become an important topic in the press circle and education circle of journalism and communication in China. The present study focuses on how to interpret journalistic professionalism against this particular background. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part states the history of journalistic professionalism in the West and makes its definition and core values clear. The following part gives a general picture of the development of professionalism after it was imported to China in modern time and the special press context in China. The last part involves an empirical research. By the additional means of frame theory and content analysis, it examines the operation ways in reporting of the sample media with the hope of describing the ways of "Professionalization" of Guangdong media in terms of their operation. In addition to the above research, the thesis adopts the sociological field study in ways of interviews and questionnaires to investigate the journalists' recognition of the profession, their awareness of observing professional ethics and serving the public, which contributes to the conclusion of the current situation of "Journalistic Professionalism" in Guangdong media. The results of the study reveal a phenomenon that journalistic professionalism is in fragment succession in media. It would be generalized as imitation in operation and incompletion in internalization. In other words, journalistic professionalism in Guangdong media is likely to be emphasized just in the aspects of the professional level in operation skills and performance ways. The results show that news staff holds deviated understanding of the truth and objectiveness and have vague idea of media's social responsibility, reporter's professional ethics and identity recognition. Moreover, it is indicated that the journalistic education casts little influence on the internalization of professionalism.
