As an important part of the public library service,children services has been in rapid development in recent years,but its service quantity and quality of service can not meet the needs of children and parents,and there are many confuses in the development of practice.And facing the increasingly rapid growth of service demand,the building of children services in the community libraries is an effective way to ensure the equalization of children's library services,and is benefit to the construction of the community children services network in the grass-roots public libraries.In order to speed up the construction of children services in community libraries,and need to learn the advanced experience from the developed countries.The United States is the most developed country of children library,and it is also the research focus of children services in China.While referring to the theory of children services in the public libraries of the United States from the existing literature,this thesis is devoted to study the children services in the community public libraries of the United States by field investigation.By the description of practice process of their children services and the analysis of its characteristics,we present the references and inspirations for the practice of children services in our libraries.The thesis divided into five parts.The first part is introduction:introduce the background and significance of the topic,define the concepts related to this article,summarize the relevant research at home and abroad,research methods,innovations.The second part:Based on the research of the development process of American community libraries and their children services,this paper analyzes the driving factors for the development of children services in the American community libraries from the community-based service steering,social cultural factors,legal system protection and so on.The third part:Based on the facts of field investigation,this part analyses the activities of children of HPPL in the whole year,focusing on the analysis of theSummer Reading Program and the specific parent-child reading activities,and analyses the factors that affect the children services in the process of practices,such as the librarians,the space,the collection and so on.The fourth part:from the development of American educational ideas,this part discusses the new direction of children services in American community libraries and the introduction of specific practice cases.The fifth part:from the law and regulation protection of children services,the construction of the concept of children services,the reconstruction of the function of children services,the cultivation of Librarians' ability,and the improvement of the quality of the readers,the relevant measures and suggestions are put forward.
