Research On The Media Image Of Migrant Workers In People's Daily (2003-2017)

When migrant workers began to appear,there was no specific role in the tradition al social stratum.As a new role,when they entered the city,they engaged in the sa me work as urban residents,but they could not enjoy the same social welfare and oth er preferential policies as urban residents.Some scholars pointed out sharply that the social status of migrant workers did not rise with the development of the economy,n ot rise but fall,showing a "reverse growth" trend.However,with the marketization of employment and the inclusive reform of social insurance,migrant workers began to r eceive equal employment and employment-related social insurance treatment with other workers,and their social status began to rise slowly.This paper focuses on the content of the change of migrant workers' image reflecte d in the relevant reports of People's Daily from 2003 to 2017,and finds that the med ia image of migrant workers in People's Daily has undergone a long period of evoluti on,from the absence of media image to the "blind flow" and "countrymen" flooding i nto cities,and then gradually to the "vulnerable" which need the government's care.G roup,New Citizens.However,in the new era,the media image of migrant workers ha s not been finalized.Some scholars have pointed out that the media in China have m ade many efforts in the construction of the image of migrant workers.The image of migrant workers is no longer simply classified by positive,negative and neutral classif ication methods,but is developing in a three-dimensional and diversified direction.The factors affecting this development are policy,economy and the reasons of migrant w orkers themselves.This paper is divided into four chapters.The introduction is mainly used to introd uce the significance of this study,the choice of media and literature review.Chapter one is the most important part of this paper.It analyses the media image of migrant workers in People's Daily from three aspects: topic selection,number and discourse.It provides data support for the following analysis.Chapter two summarizes the changes of media image in the 15 years from 2003 to 2017 based on the data analysis of C hapter One.The third chapter is based on the second chapter,from the policy,econo my,as well as migrant workers' own reasons to analyze the deep reasons for the change of media image.The fourth chapter is mainly used for the conclusion of this paper.
