An Analysis Of The Media Discourse Of People's Daily Reports On Migrant Workers

Since the eighties of the last century,the large-scale migration of rural population to cities has attracted the attention of the whole society,and the migrant workers have also emerged as the times require,and they have made important contributions to the economic construction and social development of our country.The migrant workers are a group which can not be ignored in the process of urbanization.On one hand,they are accepted by the cities,on the other hand,they are also subjected to a variety of unfair treatments in society.As a result,the migrant workers have gradually become the common issue that the party and the state,the mass media and social members concern and focus on.This paper takes People's Daily's reports on the migrant workers from reform and opening-up as the object of study.By using discourse analysis theory and relevant methods,this paper analyzes the text of the reports of People's Daily on the migrant workers to finds out the characteristics of the reports in different periods.On the basis of this,it explores the dialectical relationship between the changes of reports and social changes of the migrant workers.According to Norman Felke's theory of discourse analysis,this paper mainly studies from the three dimensions of social practice,discourse practice and text analysis adopting the thought of discourse analysis.In the aspect of social practice,it mainly explores the changes of social environment behind the media reports,which are discussed from four aspects: the environment of social,the environment of policy,the environment of media and the environment of audience as it is the environmental backing of the reports.Any news report can not be divorced from the social environment of its era,the migrant workers report is no exception,it reflects the social environment changes in real time,which is a two-way interactive process,the two complement each other.In the aspect of discourse practice,it mainly analyzes the changes and development of the themes and agenda setting of migrant workers' reports.In the aspect of text analysis,it mainly analyzes the contents and forms of the reports on migrant workers.The two parts of discourse practice and text analysis are mainly classified and analyzed by taking relevant samples and analyzing these samples to explore the diachronic changes of news discourse of reports on the migrant workers.The study found that,during the development process of reports on migrant workers,the number of reports is increasing,the scope of coverage is more and moreextensive and the subjects of reports are more and more diverse and so on.In the aspect of discourse practice,the themes change from from reflecting migrant workers' flow at first to exploring the problems related to migrant workers,paying attention to the living conditions of migrant workers,and finally to expressing demands for migrant workers and safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests.In the aspect of agenda setting,the agenda setting situation that the media response to the leading of government changes to the situation that the media actively involve in and affect the government issues step by step and a multi-agenda setting situation that the government,the media,audience benign interact well has formed,.On the basis of the analysis of the diachronic changes in the reporting discourse of migrant workers,this paper further explores the social environment changes behind the changes of the reporting discourse of migrant workers,and explores the relationship between the changes in the reporting of migrant workers and social changes.
