With the widespread deployment of optical access networks and the development of diversified services,it has become a new trend that emerging business such as the Internet of Things(IoT)and traditional businesses are hosted on a single fiber access network,thus contributing to the multi-service integration of optical access systems.In the new system,the services carried by the ONUs have different characteristics.The current single energy-saving strategy cannot well meet the energy-saving requirements of the system.Taking EPON as an example,this paper proposes a new energy-saving strategy based on the characteristics of ONU services.Through the simulation analysis,we can find that with the new strategy,the energy consumption can be reduced by 75% for ONUs that carry emerging low-load services such as IoT and the delay is within the allowable range.For the ONU carrying traditional services,the energy saving ratio can reach 40% with low loads and tends to decrease as the load increases,but the delay is relatively low.The simulation results show that the proposed classification dormancy energy-saving strategy can balance the system QoS and energy consumption in multi-service converged EPON system.Secondly,the paper extends the previous 1G / 10G-EPON energy saving scheme and applies it to the NG-EPON system that IEEE standards organizations are exploring.In NG-EPON,ONU owns different number of transceivers according to the different speeds.The paper proposes a classification strategy based on the working status of ONU transceivers so that the energy-saving effect can be dynamically adjusted according to the change of load.Through the simulation analysis,we can get a 60% reduction of energy consumption when the system link is under a low load,and the delay is similar to the case of no energy saving.
