STEAM education originated in the United States and has a wide range of influences around the world.STEAM Education emphasizes breaking the barriers between disciplines and achieving the integration of science,technology,engineering,mathematics,and art.The learning style of STEAM education is based on the design of real scenes,projects and tasks,the goal is to develop interdisciplinary and comprehensive talents with innovative,practical and sustainable learning capabilities.China's "Course Standards" emphasizes the integration of STEAM concepts into various disciplines and the development of students'STEAM quality.STEAM textbook is the carrier of STEAM education,the core of STEAM education concept,and the key to the steady and rapid development of STEAM education.This paper defines the concept and characteristics of STEAM textbooks,analyzes the development of STEAM in China,and discusses how publishers should develop STEAM textbooks.This paper analyzes the characteristics of STEAM teaching materials,development overview and development strategy and combines with the development practice of STEAM textbook "Swing Design and Manufacture",to analyze the problems encountered in the development of STEAM teaching materials in China.From the characteristics of STEAM textbooks,STEAM textbooks are emerging concepts and are new textbooks that incorporate multiple disciplines,it has the characteristics of authenticity,openness,technological up-to-dateness,support,and localization;From the perspective of the development of STEAM teaching materials,the author discusses the development status of STEAM teaching materials in China from the introduction of STEAM teaching materials,the construction of STEAM education platform and the publication of localized STEAM teaching materials.On this basis,the author analyzes the environment of China from the conditions required for the development of STEAM textbooks such as policies,technologies and resources;From the aspect of STEAM teaching material development,STEAM textbook contains elements such as textbook objectives,textbook content,textbook columns,and textbook evaluation mechanism,the textbook should be developed according to the requirements of different sections under the premise of including the above elements.This paper studies the development of STEAM textbooks,focusing on the characteristics of STEAM textbooks,the essential elements of STEAM textbooks,and the development requirements of textbooks in different sections,to provide some theoretical thinking and reference suggestions for the publisher to develop STEAM textbooks incorporating socialist core values.
