The Decision of the State Council on Vigorous Development of the VocationalEducation in2005has established "Aiming to serve the people, taking the employment as theguidance" as the policy of vocational education, which fully embodies the concept ofskill-oriented vocational education. In2012, Yantai No.1vocational school was rated asone of model schools demonstrating our national reform and development on vocationaleducation in the second round (the model school for short), and the electromechanicaltechnology and its application was listed as the key model major as well. The modeldevelopment of this major focuses a lot on the development, application and updating ofteaching materials under the skill-oriented concept. Many school-based and supplementaryteaching materials are well developed based on the existing textbooks according to thechanging social requirements and working skill requirements.The book Electrical and Electronic Technology and the Application in this study isregarded as one of the school-based teaching materials in the school. After comparing thefeatures of teaching materials both at home and abroad, the author integrated the trainingmode of the school into the study from the aspects of the educational system, students’professional development, teaching resources, the talent needs of local enterprises combiningstudy and practice and skills competition. A natural conclusion was drawn that the existingtextbooks by Higher Education Press are not suitable to the educational objectives of theschool, so it is urgent to develop its own school-based teaching materials accordingly.During the development of the school-based textbook Electrical and Electronic Technologyand the Application, based on the analysis of the educational objectives in the school, theauthor consulted a number of experts and made an investigation on the enterprises, studentsand their parents by questionnaires and interviews involving how to choose, adapt, anddevelop new teaching materials and how to design learning activities. Based on the analysisof the results, the author carefully devised the curriculum syllabus and the textbook compilingprograms, elaborately selected the teaching contents, built a compiling team, and establishedthe evaluation system in the school.The school-based textbook covers the basic laws of circuit, and several modules on the ACcircuits and DC circuits, motors and control circuits, analog circuits, digital circuits. This textbook caters to the students’ actual learning needs and it makes full use of good laboratoryresources in the school, integrates the form of combining study and practice and theknowledge and skill requirements in skills competitions into the daily teaching, and itcontributes to the development of students’ practice ability and professionalism.This school-based textbook began to be adopted by the freshman students in September,2013. The analysis on the use of the textbook shows four main advantages as follows: firstly,since we use school-based textbook, the students made great progresses; secondly, theschool-based textbook successfully motivates the students to learn willingly, makes theteachers become good at teaching, and meets the demand of the enterprises; thirdly, thetraining part in the textbook makes full use of the abundant laboratory resources; fourthly,this school-based textbook is well compiled under the guidance of the project-based teachingapproach. At the same time, the reflections on the textbook also make the author aware ofsome existing problems in the teaching contents and in the process of teaching. On one hand,there exists low theoretical level in the teaching contents caused by the editor teachers’limited knowledge system; on the other hand, better improvement is needed on the teachingmaterials because of lack of professionally qualified instructing teachers in skillscompetitions.Professional teaching is a kind of systematic work, and the effectiveness of school-basedteaching materials is an important indicator of a successfully compiled textbook. The authorwill continue to focus on the follow-up use of the textbook from the perspectives of both theteachers and the students for further researches in this field.
