Berelson's Study Of Communication Research Withering

The reconstruction of research paradigms in crisis and communication of communication disciplines has always been the core topic that scholars have paid attention to since the establishment of communication studies.Since Berelson concluded communication research withered.scholars have conducted more research on the effect of communication,and also discussed the integration of various research ideas in the discipline of communication.In these discussions,scholars mostly discuss communication studies that they understand,and rarely discuss the communication studies that Berelson understands from Berelson'^article.The communication crisis often discussed,but interpretation of the development of communication research is based on the concept of communication understood by each person,and the understanding of communication crisis is confusing.By studying Berelson's claim,this article finds that Berelson attached great importance to the political effect of communication research,and that Berelson payed less attention to the long-term effects of communication.He emphasizes the concept of"cultural alertness" and believes that the audiences are not easy to be convinced.Berelson believes important issues of society are limited,only employment,security,political rights and other specific content,on these topics,the audience should have their own views,but he underestimates the possibility of changes in the concept of audience topics.With the new discoveries of technological progress and effect research,new effects responde to Berelson,s questions,and long-term effects and cultural communication have meant that multiple realizations of communication effects may be possible.The content is explained in some detail.However,Berelson'^other research directions on communication constitute the discussion of the current crisis of communication.This discussion can be seen as a late controversy,about the boundaries of communication and the pursuit of paradigms.In the end,this paper argues that the crisis of communication originates from the differences in the roles of communication researchers.The social role consciousness of scholars determines the limits of responsibility of communication research.Researchers treat themselves as promoters of institutional change,knowledge transferors,organizers,and information products.The creator decides whether communication research will promote publicity or promote social change.Communication studies should have social values and then shape the core logic of communication.
