A Study On China-related Report In Spanish Newspaper EL PA�S(2016-2018)

With the continuous deepening of reform and opening and the rapid development of the economy,the national strength of China is increasing.As a very important part of the country's soft power,the national image plays an crucial role in a country's national interests.In recent years,with the deepening of the reform and opening,China has made remarkable achievements in all aspects,which has made the international community's perception of China significantly improved.China also has an increasing influence on all countries in the world.In particular,President Xi Jinping has put forward the proposal of �the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road�.It is not only an opportunity for the development of China,but also an opportunity for countries actively participating in this initiative.This also includes Spain,which is emerging from the economic crisis.However,due to the existence of Western stereotypes,ideology,conflicts of cultural values and other factors,other countries' media have cognitive biases about the national image of China.This misreading not only affected the international image of China,but also hindered China's improvement of international competitiveness and the realization of the Chinese dream.The positive dissemination and construction of the Chinese national phenomenon in Spain is conducive to the healthy development of all aspects of Sino-Western relations.The topics selected by the spanish media about China,the media positions and their causes,and the influence of the formation of the reports are all important contents on the research of studying the national image of China in the spanish media.From the perspective of communication studies,it is of academic value and practical significance to conduct research on the China-related reports of the newspaper EL PA�S,the largest circulation newspaper in Spain,by content analysis and discourse analysis methods.Through the collection and compilation of relevant reports on China of EL PA�S from January 1,2016 to December 31,2018,I analyzed and summarized the typical reporting themes in this kind of report and the Chinese image they presented,and then explored the characteristics and causes of the China-related reports of the newspaper EL PA�S.Through the study of more than 1,000 reports on China in the newspaper EL PA�S,the contents include all aspects of political,economic,technological and social life.It describes a national image of China and depicts the image of a big country with rapid economic development and increasing international influence.However,due to the differences in history,cultural values,and national conditions of China and Spain,the newspaper EL PA�Sstill has a certain tendency in terms of subject selection,but the most news respect the facts and are more objective and neutral.To a certain extent,it balances the paradoxes of other Western media.In order to carry out external communication better and build a objective and positive national image,we should face up to the current problems.We need to introduce China comprehensively and objectively,and at the same time recognize the problems existing in external communication.In addition,we should further change the attitude and mode of external communication,attach importance to the balance of reporting,change the discourse system,rationally use various communication resources,and work hard to build a good image of China's national identity.
