The Generation And Decomposition Of Resistance Discourse In Meme Emoticons

On social media,meme emoticons have become a new medium for kuso and expressing feelings by its multi-modal symbol system.However,the popularity of certain emoticons often expresses the real mentality or demands of certain groups in a seemingly entertaining manner.The text practice in the popularity of meme emoticons reflects a discourse game of three parties which including the Internet users,mainstream consciousness,and the commercial capital.This study focuses on the culture creation in meme emoticons,and analyzes the process of generation to decomposition of resistance discourse,which is divided into four chapters.The first chapter made a historic comb of meme emoticons from its formation to population.Meme emoticons are usually produced by networked citizens,and have a feature of intertextuality and fanaticism on spread,which lead to a resistance discourse.The second chapter summarized the meme emoticons' content and structure by text analysis in a semiotic perspective.The resistance to mainstream value is not clear in meme emoticon' discourse,instead of a decomposition style by spoof and playful expression.This style,however,is constructed through ironic symbolic rhetoric and has deep cultural motivation.The third chapter choose a popular meme emoticon "delicate pig girl" as a case study,from the perspective of diachronic,explored how the meaning of "pig girl" is selected,refused,identified and eventually forms,and commercial capital of marketing how to articulate the word "delicate" with "pig girl",and in turn promote meme emoticons to popularity,and resistance discourse in the process also has been gradually collapsed.The fourth chapter summarizes the political and economic factors implied in the process of resistance to decomposition in meme emoticons discourse.First of all,the long-term infiltration of mainstream ideology on social citizens is manifested as an "absent presence" in the emoticon text,which makes its resistance discourse with the characteristics of deconstruction.Second,the commercial capital lead a trend of infortainment,which intensifies the entertainment feature of resistance discourse.Meanwhile,under the national regulation,the marketing system of social media takes advantage of peoples' repressed emotional expression to develop a consumerist subject construction.In this way,the resistance discourse of emoticons cannot be regarded optimistically as the free expression channel of the public and the construction of their own cultural subjectivity in the context of the empowerment of new technological,and also cannot be regarded pessimistically as a consumerism recreation orgy.Its formation and decomposition are the result of a series of social complex factors intermingled and constructed with each other,which reflects the new type of interaction between discourse and power in the media in postmodern society.
