Research On The Influence Of WeChat Emoticons In Family Intergenerational Communication

Cultural traditions have always been inherited from the old to the young throughout history.With the rapid development of science and technology as well as changes of modern society,however,the cultural inheritance from the old to the young has been reversed because of the different ability to accept and to adapt to new things.The offspring once being taught now stand the chance to teach their parents.The reverse cultural feeding which means the cultural influence of the younger generation on its elders has become an inevitable phenomenon of social transformation.The Wechat meme,one of the representative things of Internet culture,is also one of the ways of cultural feeding.Based on my everyday experience,studied in the context of thereverse cultural feeding,I investigate the influence of Wechat meme on family communications between generations by questionnaire and in-depth interviews,and find out that:Firstly,Wechat meme positively affects family communication between generations.It plays an important role in daily communication with its unique advantages.Children naturally use meme when they chat online with their parents.As a result,chatting with meme has become a new form of communication.It is of positive significance for parents to overcome the fear of difficulty and to reinvent themselves.And it can improve parents and children to grow together.Secondly,how meme functions in family communication between generations are multiple.Some are indirect,others are direct.According to the data analysis and case study,I find out that the education background,the living situation and the relation between generation shave a significant influence on how meme functions in family communication between generations.Thirdly,meme has limited impact on family communication between generations because of the limited acceptance of parents to new things and the attitude as well as the way that children teach their parents.Meme has both positive and negative effects,so these will cause the impact of floating on the surface.Fourthly,to narrow the generation gap and to improve the family harmony,I propose:first,since meme has positive effect on family communication,we need to study how meme functions in family communication intensively.Second,we need to strengthen the guidance,help them jump out of the traditional thought,and help them better accept the new thing so as to adapt to modern society.Third,children need to have a better understanding of parents' ideas as well as the differences between generations for solve many problems.Fourth,it is necessary to improve people's ability to communicate with family members and make parents and children to study together and grow together.
