Publishing companies stand out with distinctive characteristics from other cultural businesses in China.In daily practices,they are of business nature like other companies.However,they are different in terms of property ownership,with typical features of public institutions.Asministrative supervision is exercised through the whole production chain of their core products,including research and development,publishing and distributing.Recent government regulations have made more detailed classifications of cultural businesses,with assured clarifications on the economic performance and social benefits of state-owned cultural businesses.With reference to those regulations,this paper studies the state-owned F Publishing Group from the author's perspective as a senior manager working with the publisher.It has further discussions on the F Publishing Group's practices and experiences in achieving economic performance and social benefits.In this paper,those theories related to equality and efficiency,cultural industries,and corporate responsibilities are further probed,with such research methods of comparative study,theoretical reference,functional analysis,empirical research,and induction and deduction.With discussions on the problems the F Publishing Group has encountered,this paper attempts to work out problem-solving measures and their preconditions,serving publishing companies as a reference document for giving priority to social benefits while achieving good economic performance.
