In 2009,Fan Yaping introduced the theory of professional identity to the field of journalism and communication, and opened the prelude to the journalists' professional identity research in the field of journalism and communication in China. The professional identity of journalists is the result of the joint action of journalists themselves and the political and economic factors.Any change in factors will likely change the professional identity of journalists.Media convergence rose to national strategy in 2014.At the beginning of 2019,General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out the direction for the future development of media convergence. This study will focus on the impact of the media convergence on the professional identity of journalists and new problems to the professional identity of journalists which brought by media convergence. And this study will discuss how to improve the professional identity of journalists. The theory of professional identity will be taken as the theoretical perspective, the four dimensions of journalist professional identity research proposed by Fan Yaping will be taken as the research dimension, the journalist group in Chongqing will be taken as the research object,questionnaires,in-depth interviews and participatory observations will be taken as research methods, combined with content analysis and literature analysis. The purpose of this study is to explore the status quo of the professional identity of the respondents in the context if media convergence and its influencing factors, and try to find effective ways to improve the professional identity and loyalty of journalists in Chongqing to promote the stable development of the news communication industry in Chongqing. The main findings of this study are summarized below,1)Professional counterparts and personal interests are the main reasons why the respondents choose to be journalists;2)The job satisfaction of the respondents was average, but the proportion of respondents who expressed satisfaction was higher than the proportion of respondents who expressed dissatisfaction, independent variables such as gender, media administration level, media type, relationship between marriage and love are related to professional identity;3)The respondents own poor professional loyalty and nearly 70 percent of them have tried or are trying to find new jobs or change careers. The low salary income and the lack of optimism about the career prospects of the journalist industry are the main reasons.4)The poor wage income and the enormous gapbetween actual work and news ideals are the mains source of respondents' work stress.5)More than half of the respondents chose to use “news migrant workers” to describe themselves, and about 30% of the respondents regarded journalists as an ordinary job.6)Most respondents regard information communicators, policy interpreters, and informers seeking truth as the main social function of current journalists;7)The respondents generally believe that correctly guiding public opinion, helping the public to understand the policies of the party and the government, and serving as the mouthpiece of the party and the government are the main social values of the current journalists;8)The respondents regard ensuring facts and reporting objectiveness as the most important professionalisms;9)The respondents are optimistic about the overall career prospects, but more than 70% of respondents believe that journalists need to improve their operational capacities to cope with the challenges brought by media convergence. The degree of professional recognition of journalists determines whether they know what they should or should not do,what is worth or is not worth doing, cherish these values sincerely and stick to them.According to research findings,I put forward the following suggestions based on the environment of media convergence and the status quo and existing problems of respondents from the perspectives of the public, the news media and the journalists themselves: First of all,the news media unit should improve the remuneration system, incorporate the journalist's years of employment into the standard of remuneration, and completely distinguish the method of remuneration from the payment method of the civil servant and other industries, and normalize the business training;Secondly, the public who act as “recipients” in news communication activities should give more support and understanding to journalists who are “transfers” in news communication activities;Last but not the least, journalists themselves should face up to work stress and strengthen self-adjustment.
