In dealing with the relationship between the city and the media,mainstream communication studies since the Chicago School have all regarded the media as a tool to represent and reproduce the city.Cities are seen as spaces for building relationships,and the communication activities carried out in them are the social practices of weaving network of relationships.This paper will place the research site in a specific urban cultural space—an independent bookstore,using 1200 bookshop in Guangzhou as the research object,and combining observation and interviewing methods to study how this physical space,which is the city's media,accomplishes its construction of the meaning from the three levels—material entities,interactive practices,and culture spirit.The first lies in material entity construction.We will study the object of the independent bookstore about the cultural symbols of its internal space and its interwoven relationship with the elements of the external urban space.The second layer is interactive practice.With in-depth understanding of the main body of space,starting from daily life,exploring the two-way perception of the space environment of people and independent bookstores,and the interaction between people in space.The third one is cultural spirit.Focusing on the core of an independent bookstore's human-oriented approach and excavating its game process with mechanized order,capitalized interests,and other regulations,it provides a city with cultural vitality with true,good,and beautiful connotations.As an important window to show the city's culture,the urban cultural space should assume the important responsibility of spreading and continuing the cultural connotation.In the deep cultural practice of compiling the interaction between people,people and space,and between people and cities,to create a people-oriented,sustainable urban environment.
