American TV series are more and more popular in China.This paper takes the growing group of the fans of American TV series as subjects for study.The researcher adopts an online ethnography,Baidu Post Bar,where online participatory observation and in-depth interview are applied.And in-depth interview was conducted to collect data from 26 fans of American TV shows.Using Spectacle/Performance paradigm and Internet memes to understanding,as an individual or as a group,how they display themselves,their performance and resistance in the process,and the difficulties they faced.Chapter one is an introduction,mainly introducing the research background and reviewing of the relevant literature,such as the history of the fan culture,the main research content,the productivity and resistance of fans,the fan culture and Internet memes,the spectacle / performance paradigm,the significance and research methods of this paper.Chapter two describes how the scattered fans gather for the common hobbies through exploring reasons for the popularity,the characteristics of American TV shows,and the changing media environment.Chapter three depicts and analyzes the formation and demarcation of fandom,and their challenges for censorship.Chapter four they display themselves online through 4 types of Internet memes including texts,pictures,video clips,and characters,and we also find their resistance of traditional gender temperament,stereotypes and male-dominated culture,besides their values and moral position.Chapter five describes their performance and resistance in the process,and the difficulties they faced,including the Internet still reproduces the power and hierarchy,their silence and loss,the suspicion of infringement and the dual impact on the cultural industry.Chapter six is a summary and reflection of this paper.
