Nowadays,production of the television programs is facing problems like homogenization,and brings fatigue and exclusion to audience.If the entertainment elements are abused,TV programs will eventually become something like snack.Cultural Television Program,an entertaining TV program type,utilizes the characteristics of television medium to show and inherit outstanding traditional culture.It integrates the elements of Chinese culture with the formation of modern TV programs.It becomes particularly necessary to focus on the production and creative strategies of the cultural TV program to avoid similar problems.To make a TV program accepted and supported by more viewers,the content of the program should have a great attraction for audience.The success of television programs,such as Chinese Poetry Competition,Letters Alive,has brought many inspirations to the development of television programs featuring Chinese culture.Taking “the Letters Alive” TV program as a paragon,the current paper investigates why cultural TV program with such simple plot could become popular.In the present paper,the author regards “the Letters Alive” as an entry point,which comprehensively analyzes the successful exploration to inherit Chinese traditional culture by the TV program.First,the paper analyzes the program's content based on around 80 letters in 12 episodes of Letters Alive.Then through in-depth interview with 10 audiences,the paper discusses how the TV program constructs cultural identity of audience through the history,traditional culture and values these letters convey.Furthermore,this paper will discuss how to make cultural TV program accepted and supported by more audience,and how the mass media play a role as an important carrier of culture.
