From Coronation To Decline:Presentation Of Professional Image In The Practice Of Journalist Discourse

In recent years,along with changes in the external environment,reporters have begun to face more pressure and challenges than ever before.With the large amount of new media eroding the traditional media's living space and the change in news production methods and production relations triggered by technological changes,the professional image of reporters has released multiple signals of crisis.The journalists are no longer the "kingless kings" of past power and status."News workers" seems to be more impressionable to reporters.So,what is the real image of a reporter?Within the group of reporters,how do they see their own image?This article uses the 547 journalists' figures from the "Chinese Reporter" as a discourse analysis sample from 1987 to 2017.Based on the theory of discourse,the journalist examines reporters through relevant discourse expressions concerning the reporter's identity information,occupational environment,professional demands,professional abilities,and professional roles.The professional image in discourse is presented and attempts to reveal the connection between discourse practice and social practice.Through analysis,the following findings were mainly found:First of all,for 31 years,the reporter's discourse has shown different leading reporters' images in different periods.These are:the propagandist image from 1987-1991,the image of the objective recorder from 1992-2001,the image of the supervisor from 2002-2012,and the image of the adherent from 2013-2017.Secondly,through analyzing the image metaphors in the reporter's discourse,it is found that during 1987-1991,the frequency of discourse metaphors such as "officials","fighters" and "politician" were relatively high,and this period presented the image of a reporter who was crowned.From 1992 to 2001,the frequency of discourse metaphors such as "eye" and "pen" were relatively high.This period presented an objectively-recorded image of the reporter.From 2002 to 2012,discourse metaphors such as "hero" and"warrior" "backbone" were more frequently seen,and they were shown to be praised.From 2013 to 2017,the expression of discourse metaphors,such as "migrant workers" and"asceticism," presented the reporter's negative emotions that were self-deprecating and self-deprecating.On the whole,the journalist's metaphorical change of their own images showed the journey of the professional image of the reporter from coronation to decline.Again,with the help of the Enteman Discourse Framework,a deep survey of the four periods reveals:the period of the propagator was due to the attachment of power to the national politics.The journalist's occupation had the same interests as the party and the country.The reporter was regarded as a "press officer" and a "politician" and received passive reinforcement from outside power.During the recorder's period,due to the professional consciousness of his own professional concept,the reporter began to take the initiative of self-inflicted attempts from within the profession by means of institutionalized professional knowledge,which at one time also contributed to the self-image recognition of the journalist profession.During the time of the supervisors,the reporter hoped to use his own discourse power to promote social progress and try to further increase his own initiative.However,during this period,the fierce competition in the market for reporters has intensified,the state has gradually withdrawn its career as a reporter,and the profession of the reporter's occupation as a vassal of the political power of the state has declined.Occupational status has shown a decline in daily practice.In the period of adherence,in the face of professional crisis and predicament,the image of the reporter is inevitably going to decline collectively.During this period,we insisted on becoming the voice of many journalists.They believe that moving closer to politics and actively adhering to the country is the top priority for responding to the crisis.At the same time,only sticking to professionalism is the fundamental strategy for reshaping professional legitimacy.At the same time,in the reporter's discourse,the country's external forces interfered with the rewriting of the famous reporter's symbol from mythical encouragement to ambiguity,all at the same time confirming the history of the reporter's image from coronation to collective decline.
