Research On Virtual Reality News Narration And Its Ethic Issues

In recent years,the rapid development of the mobile internet in the world has brought unparalleled impact to the traditional media.The traditional media is seeking transformation in the pain of technological change,in which case,VR news has gradually become a new opportunity for the transformation of traditional media.As one of the latest media technologies,virtual reality is still under exploration,which brings a lot of problems to VR news.Taking VR news narrative as a breakthrough,this thesis is trying to reveal the ethical problems of VR news narrative and explore the new ethical dimension through a great quantity of literature analysis and case analysis.The first chapter is an introduction of the thesis which mainly contains a description of the study situation,research purpose and significance,as well as a documentary survey of existing studies on VR news narrative and its ethical issues.In the end of this chapter,the research methods and innovation are introduced.The next chapter defines the concept of VR news based on the specificity of virtual reality technology and the essential attributes of news,and then classifies VR news into three categories according to its mode of production.The second part of this chapter combs the domestic and foreign situation of VR news.In the third chapter,the connotation and characteristics of VR news narration are expounded.VR news narration is a kind of documentary narration based on VR technology,which has four principal features:panoramic narrative scene,diversified narrative structure,invisible narrative subject,first-person narrative perspective.The fourth chapter analysis the problems of VR news narration and its ethical risk.The problems of VR news narratives is mainly reflected in the following four aspects:presentation of information-sea,extremely dispersed narrative content,serious deficiency of guidance,little demonstration of the details.These four problems will affect audience's understanding of VR news information.The ethical issues of VR news narrative are summarized into four points:first,hyper-real narrative scene harm news authenticity;second,the trend of pan-entertainment highlighted the obsequiousness of journalism;third,over-pursuit of immersive narrative may caused visual violence to the audience;fourth,panoramic shooting cause privacy crisis.The fifth chapter takes five VR news as specific cases to analyzes how to avoid ethical problems of VR news through narrative skills.The sixth part explores narrative strategies of VR news in avoiding ethic risks combined with previous research and analysis.When VR technology used in news,there are four pair of opposite subjects rise in VR news narrative:the construction of hyper-reality symbols and directing events against news authenticity;entertainment value against news pan-entertainment;strong immersive experience against to visual violence and the panoramic display against privacy protection.To explore the narrative strategies in avoiding ethic risks is to find out the equilibrium areas between the two opposite aspects in each dimension,so that VR news narrative can develop strengths and circumvent weaknesses and then achieve a rapid and healthy development.The last part makes a summary of this study based on foregoing discussion.As a new form of news,VR news has obvious technical advantages,but its problems of news authenticity,pan-entertainment,visual violence and privacy invasion should also be underestimated.To find the development direction of VR news narrative in technological boom is the responsibility of researcher in journalism and communication,and also a challenge to overcome for traditional media transformation.
