With the rapid development of the Internet,a variety of new applications have emerged.These emerging Internet services' demand for network resources has also increased.As a result,network congestion would be particularly severe.It is more and more challenging for the network to meet the diversity of QoS demands of delay-sensitive or bandwidth-demanding applications,such as video conferencing,webcast and online games.How to satisfy the requirements for certain applications through optimal path selection becomes a necessity.Under such a circumstance,an application-level QoS oriented path optimization system in overlay network was introduced in this paper.This system can effectively optimize the path of network application traffic on the overlay network by using the deep packet inspection technology and SDN technology.The main work of this paper is as flollows:Firstly,this paper introduced the existing optimal path selection schemes,and analyzed their characteristics and scenarios.Secondly,the three key technologies used in the system were introduced.The deep packet inspection technology could detect the application traffic in the network and establish the mapping relationship between the applicaiotion and the IP address.The combination of overlay network and SDN technology was the foundation for path optimization.Network link quality detection technology were proposed to achieve comprehensive understanding of network status.Thirdly,the entire system architecture,principles,process examples and components of the module were introduced.According to the demand analysis,the controller of the overlay network path optimization system and the deep packet inspection related program were designed and developed.The function and working process of each module and method was introduced in detail.Finally,a set of test cases were carried out in an experimental overlay network and verified the functionality and efficiency of the proposed scheme.
