Study On News Sources Bias Of Smog Reports In Southern Metropolis Daily

This thesis mainly investigates the bias of news sources in Southern Metropolis Daily's reports about smog.Currently,the smog appeared frequently in our country as well as the related reports.Southern Metropolis Daily,known as its concern for people's life,has caught my attention.In the severe form of "breathing difficulty",people from different classes and different streams have become the important sources in the newspaper.The source is an important variable in shaping the news frame,and the bias of sources can reflect the distribution of power structure and social resources.Then,2016 is the twentieth anniversary of the founding of Southern Metropolis Daily,and it has a great significance both in reality and times to analyze the bias of news sources.Therefore,this thesis uses the methods of content analysis and the text analysis to analyze the sources of smog reports of the Southern Metropolis Daily in 2013-2016,so to analyze the reasons of bias sources and to explore how the bias trend changes in the future.According to statistics,there are mainly three biases on news sources of smog reports from the Southern Metropolis Daily.The first bias is news sources diversity.There are abundant news sources like people,organizations,file and documents,new media,etc.The second bias is that news sources tends to be from elite class,which is the main feature of news sources of smog reports.Through deep investigation of statistics and contents,the author found that the "diversity" is just an appearance of data presentation,but elitism is the root of the hidden bias.Thirdly,the pattern of news sources tends to be multipolar.It is a new change caused by the middle class and intellectual elite in smog reports as news sources,and it has broken the original pattern of "binary opposition",namely,the contrast of civilians and officials and the opposition between strong and weak.Combing the theory and practice,this study analyzes the reasons of bias,and find power and capital play the decisive role.That is to say the essence of bias is that the media instinctively prefer power and capital.So the author holds the view that the bias may not be broken,because the elite of society always occupy the advantages of power and resources.Then the other two trends will be more and more obvious because of the polarization of social classes,the development of new classes,the change of media ecology,and the influence of smog.It has a certain degree of significance that investigates the characteristics and bias of news sources in reports about smog.Meanwhile,analyzing the news sources with the development of social stratumwill provide a reference and research path for the overall study of the bias of news sources.
