A Study Of Crime News In Southern Metropolis Daily

Crime news relates to social stability and the safety of people's life and property.It's the public's right to know about crime patterns by crime news and it's the press' duty to report crime news. Special attention has been paid on it by all kinds of news media, including the metropolis. However, it happens that the crime news reports be a controversial issue in reality. This paper takes Southern Metropolis Daily as the research object, employing Quantitative Analysis and Framing Analysis, and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the criminal news reporting since March 2013, giving suggestions to improve the qualities of the criminal news of Southern Metropolis Daily.Except the Introduction, this paper is devided into four parts. The second chapter defines “crime” and “criminal news”, as well as the characteristics and the effect of criminal news. The time scale of this paper is from March 2013 to March 2015. By employing the method of random sampling, we selected 1637 reports as the sample.Then we anlyse the characteristics of criminal news of Southern Metropolis Daily from the quantitative analysis and framing analysis of the samples in the third chapter.In the fourth we conduct case analysis on the reports about LI Tianyi Rape Case,“3.01” Violent terrorist cases and Fudan Poisoning Case. The fifth chapter is conclusions and suggestions.In recent two years, criminal news play an important role in the newspaper layout of Southern Motropolis Daily. In some way, the criminal reports of Southern Motropolis Daily show its persuit of professionalism, especially when it comes to some topical issues. However, there are still some problems in reporing crimes,including attaching too much importance to violent crimes, inadequate in the theoretical depths and the problem of news infringement. To solve these problems, the journalists of Southern Metropolis Daily should both strengthen professionalism and enhance the legal consciousness, in order to take their social responsibilities and their social mission.
