Wire less communicat ion technolo gy has been one o f the fastest deve loping and most attracting fie lds.Wit h t he rapid develop ment o f wire less communicat ion industry and widely used in people's life. The wireless communication devices in term of portability, low power, low cost and high perfor mance ha ve become a deve lopme nt trend. As the key part of RF receiver module and also the major energy-consuming components,Low noise amplifier and mixer's performa nce p lay an vita l role in t he who le receiver syste m.The research and design on ultra-low power cons umptio n,high perfor mance low no ise amp lifier and mixer are of gre at significance to application of wireless communication technology. This paper brie fly introduces the research background and significance of t his subject, and ana lyzes t he domest ic and inter natio na l research stat us of ultra-low-power LNA and mixer.Meanwhile, the mer its and demer its of severa l convent io nal low-power techniques are summar ized.Based on the theoretica l ana lys is and simulat io n optimizat ion, this paper proposed a new low-vo ltage ultra-low-power LNA and low-volta ge ultra-low-power down convers ion mixer. The ma in work and achievements are as follows:(1)A highly ga in ultra-low-vo ltage and ultra-low-power LNA operating at 5.5GHz is presented.By improving the conve nt iona l fo lded cascode, and then adopted capacitor cross-coup led gm-boost ing structure and forward-body-bias technique. The LNA can achieve great perfor mance under ultra-low power consumpt ion.Simulat ion results show that the proposed LNA exhib its achie ves 16.5dB power gain,a noise figure of 1.53 dB,good inp ut/outp ut matc hing wit h the S11 and S22 are less than-15 dB,while only consuming 0.8mW under a 0.5V power supply.(2)An ultra-low-power UWB LNA operating at 4~5GHz is presented.the commo n gate stage is ut ilized in the first stage to achie ve broadband input matching. While the gain and no ise performa nce are improved through the use of gm-boosting techniq ue.The gm-boosting stage is provided by a common source(CS)amp lifier whic h shares the same bias current wit h t he CG amp lifying stage.Besides, forward body bias is adopted to decrease the bias ing vo lta ge.The simulat ion shows the LNA achieves a power gain of 14.5~15.3dB,a noise figure ranging between 2.3~2.6dB.The input return loss(S11)and output ret urn loss(S22)are less tha n-12 dB and-16 dB respectively,w hile the tota l power cons umptio n is only 0.9mW under an ultra-low voltage of 0.6V.(3)An ultra-low-power down-convers ion mixer for 5GHz is presented. To facilitate low power operation,t he proposed mixer adopts fo lded doub le balanced Gilbert topology with PMOS for LO switching stage. The self-bias resist ive current reuse configurat io n is emp loyed in t he RF transconductance stage to achieve high conversio n gain(CG).Since the folded topology allows RF stage and LO stage to be biased independent ly,current b leeding technique has been ut ilized to further improve the convers ion ga in,noise figure and linearit y.The simulat ion results demo nstrate that the proposed mixer can provide 17.9 dB of convers ion ga in with a local oscillator power of-4dBm,a no ise figure(NF)of 9dB,and an inp ut-referred third-order intercept point o f-1.4dBm,while the power consumpt ion of t his mixer is only 0.9 mW under 1 V supply voltage. The proposed circuits are s imulated in TSMC 0.18? m CMOS technology by Agilent ADS and Cadence software.Compared wit h the similar circ uits which were reported in recent years, the proposed LNA and mixer have certain advantages in power dissipation, gain and noise.
