With the development of wireless communication technology, there are twopotential wireless communication systems. The first is the personal wirelesscommunication system which frequency spectrum is range from900MHz to2500MHz,including the standards of2G,3G, WLAN, Bluetooth and so on. The second is theUWB system which is opened to public use by FCC, its frequency spectrum is rangefrom3.1GHz to10.6GHz. With the increasingly demand for wireless terminalequipment, it is full of great significance to research and design ultra-low-power RFreceiver. This paper briefly introduces the background and significance ofultra-low-power RF receiver, and analyzes the domestic and international researchstatus of ultra-low-power LNA and mixer. Based on the literature reading andtheoretical analysis, this paper proposed two ultra-low-power RF front-end circuitsfor personal wireless communication system and UWB system applications, respectively. The front-end circuit mainly includes LNA and mixer, the achievementsof this paper are as follows:(1) A double resonances ultra-low-power RF receiver front-end circuit formulti-standard applications is presented. The double resonances network helps toachieve a good input impedance matching. The current-reuse and forward body biastechniques help to reduce the power consumption considerably. When the supplyvoltage is1V, simulation results are as follows: In935~960MHz, input reflectioncoefficient of the front-end is below-14dB, conversion gain is18.0~18.3dB, DSB NFis2.0~2.1dB, IIP3is-8dBm. In1805~2483MHz, the input reflection coefficient isbelow-11dB, conversion gain is16.1~19.9dB, DSB NF is2.7~4.4dB, IIP3is-4dBm.The total power consumption is only1.28mW, which indicate the circuit achieves angood integrated performance under ultra-low-power consumption.(2) An ultra-low-power RF receiver front-end circuit for3.1~10.6GHz UWBsystem applications is presented. It employs a resistive shunt feedback topology toachieve a good input impedance matching. The current-reuse and forward body biastechniques are adopted to reduce the power consumption. The conversion of signalsand design of mixer are optimized by the transformer network. When the supplyvoltage is0.8V, simulation results show that the input reflection coefficient is below -10dB, conversion gain is18.3~20.5dB, DSB NF is4.3~6.1dB, IIP3is-4dBm. Thetotal power consumption is only1.9mW, which indicate the circuit achieves a goodintegrated performance under ultra-low-power consumption. The proposed circuits are simulated in TSMC0.18μm CMOS technology by ADSsoftware. Compared with the recently related designs, we know that the proposed RFfront-end circuit has certain advantages of more working standard, simpler circuitstructure, and good integrated performance under ultra-low-power consumption.
