The Status And Needs Of Social Support For Empty Nest Youth

Current social development is increasingly dependent on young talents,who are an important force in forming a harmonious society.Therefore,we pay more attention to the migrant youths' lives.However,most of these young people,mostly between the ages of 20-39,come to work in big cities away from their relatives.They cannot afford the high prices,so they can only choose to rent one bedroom or a single apartment,which have gradually become the so-called "empty nest youth".After entering the new city,empty nest youth can only get limited social support for various reasons,which has a negative impact on their quality of lives,which has caused some distress for the empty nest youth.This study wants to understand the current survival status,their dilemmas and needs when working and living in this city,and propose constructive suggestions to change the dilemma of social support for empty nest youths.The study takes the empty nest youths in Shanghai as the research object and used qualitative research methods to conduct semi-structured interviews with 20 subjects.The research content includes the basic situation of the empty nest youth,the current status on support in work and living and the need for support.The main conclusion of this study is to understand the social support of empty nest youths.It is found that when empty nest youths are working hard in unfamiliar cities,they lack formal social support,the main body of social support is centralized,and the support networks are narrow.The content of social support is mainly service and social support,and lacks economic and emotional support.The empty nest youth expressed more needs for sociable support,formal support in policy and market support.The above study findings have some enlightening effects on the research of empty nest youths in social work.This study suggests that the social support network of empty nest youths should be expanded to obtain support from more main bodies,and not limited to only the social relationships that have formed around them;at the same time,the role of formal support should be strengthened to solve the dilemma of empty nest youths in their work and lives combined with informal support;enrich the spiritual and cultural life of empty nest youths,and reduce the trouble caused by negative emotions,improve their spiritual construction.
