A Study On Social Support Of Old Women In Empty Nest Family

Social support theory was put forward by western scholars in the 1970s, inter scholars introduced it in 1980s and extensively study vulnerable groups. Though the study of social support on old people in urban area and rural area was relatively maturation, the study analyzed the old people as a whole and ignored the difference among different colonies within the old. This paper regards vulnerable groups of the old in empty nest family—the female old people as the object. This paper studies the difference between the old female people in the empty nest family and the old female people in other family in social support.As population ageing advanced rapidity, life expectancy at birth gradually prolong, family size is miniaturization and family structural is nuclearization, population floating and migration is increasing, more and more old people will live in empty nest family. This paper thoroughly exploits the status and inclination track survey data of old people in 2003 of Shanghai city and empirical research has been done to study the social support of old female people in empty nest family in order to find out the difficulty that the old female people in empty nest family face in the process of elderly support.This main content of this paper includes the following several parts: Analyze the present state of empty nest family in China, set up the demographic characteristics of old female people in empty nest family of Shanghai city, comparative analysis the difference between the old female people in the empty nest family and the old female people in other family in social economy support, comparative analysis the difference between the old female people in the empty nest family and the old female people in other family of their main helpers of ADL and IADL, comparative analysis the difference between the old female people in the empty nest family and the old female people in other family in spirit support.At last, this paper gets these conclusion: the quantity of old female people in the empty nest family will be increasing, the old female people who live alone need the most assistance in economy support, the old female people who live alone need the most assistance in life support, the old female people who live alone need the most assistance in spirit support.
