STEM education has cultivated a large number of high-quality talents for the United States and is an important force for the United States to enhance its international competitiveness.However,it has encountered many challenges in the process of rapid development.The lack of STEM teachers has become the biggest obstacle to the development of STEM education.In order to improve the situation of STEM education from the source,Carnegie and other organizations actively responded to the Obama administration's plan to recruit,train and retain 100,000 STEM teachers within 10 years,and established a 100Kin10 organization.Carnegie 100Kin10 is a non-governmental organization that connects multiple forces and has played its unique role in STEM faculty development.This paper studies the Carnegie STEM teacher supporting institution 100Kin10.In order to have a more comprehensive understanding of the specific situation of the 100Kin10 institution and its teacher training program,firstly,the basic situation of 100Kin10 will be briefly introduced,covering the development status,organizational structure and institutional functions,so that readers can have a preliminary understanding of the operation of 100Kin10.Secondly,this paper adopts the case analysis method,selects three representative teacher programs,and conducts specific research on the creation goals,curriculum arrangement,financial support and effectiveness of the program.Through the research on 100Kin10 and the teacher program,four characteristics of the institution are summarized,namely,the United States linkage to create a STEM teacher training platform;the market financing and project bidding to ensure the quality of training;ecological support system to innovate cooperation and training model;curriculum design and Teaching methods to be integrated into training practice.Although Carnegie 100Kin10 was not established for a long time,it can fully mobilize the collective strength of partners to recruit and train STEM teachers.Through the study of 100Kin10 institutions and the comparison with China's actual situation,in order to improve the quality of STEM teachers in China and promote the development of STEM education,China can learn from the following aspects: creating independent civil institutions and developing STEM with the help of social forces;Safeguard and strictly controlling standards to cultivate high-quality STEM teachers;strengthening policy and fund support to promote the systemization of teacher training;optimizing certification and teaching activities to strengthen and expand the practice link.
