Due to the poor performance of primary and secondary school students in PISA,TIMSS and other international competitions,the United States is attributed to the failure of STEM education in the basic education stage,and STEM education in the K-12 stage is facing all kinds of difficulties and challenges.This paper mainly studies the K-12 stage STEM teachers and students learning STEM knowledge of the current situation as the starting point.According to this situation,the United States has taken a series of effective measures to alleviate the problems arising from K-12 teachers and students.Then from these training in the United States K-12 stage summary of teacher initiative in characteristic and successful experience,and learn from some advisable measures according to the actual situation of our current elementary and secondary schools in STEM education,and provide reference for promoting the implementation of China's future middle school STEM teacher training.In addition to the introduction,this paper is divided into four parts.Introduction: mainly from the research background,purpose and significance,as well as the definition of core concepts,as well as the general situation of current research both at home and abroad,and finally,the determination of research methods.The first part: mainly from the intuitive description of the current situation and problems of American K-12 education emerged,such as K-12 students learning STEM lack of passion caused underachievement;different racial and gender of the students in the study of STEM academic results and the existence of significant differences.And the K-12 stage STEM teachers are also faced with a shortage of quantity,poor quality,low self-efficacy,and the unstable situation of the STEM teachers.The second part: the United States aimed at the symptoms of STEM education in K-12 stage,and foothold on STEM teacher training,because qualified and high-quality STEM teachers are the best medicine to alleviate these problems.To this end,the United States mainly targeted measures from four aspects,namely,updating the teachers' teaching methods,policy and law guidance plan and strategy,implement professional training projects and directional strategy and system guarantee,relieves the facing the embarrassing situation.The third part: according to the targeted measures adopted by the United States,it sums up the characteristics of STEM teachers in training K-12 stage,and understands the success of STEM teachers in K-12 stage.The successful experiences are: attention to the gravity and support force drive policy;the importance of social support and cooperation;To build a comprehensive training system for pre-service and vocational training;pay attention to the balanced development of STEM education system;enhance the welfare of teachers in various incentive.The fourth part is mainly to analyze the current situation of the development and research of STEM education in primary and secondary schools,as well as the actual problems in the training of STEM teachers in primary and secondary schools.According to the actual conditions of our country,we draw lessons from the successful experience of K-12 STEM teacher training in America,and put forward five suggestions to improve STEM teachers training in primary and secondary schools.
