The model,"Simulated Families" in the welfare home is a new one after the traditional nursing home and foster home which can provide much better growing environment for orphans and abandoned children. This model simulates the family life to the hilt, but it is different from the original family. Therefore there are still many defects, especially the education and study for the children, which makes their guardians have no measure to take.In the meanwhile, the children’s academic performance is generally lower because of the effects of their own physical or psychological weakness, their peers and the environment in the welfare home. The improvement of children’s learning ability plays an important role in the enhancement of children’s academic performance, the accomplishment of their school work and the social adaptation and survival in the future. Therefore,it is the best choice for social work to get involved in the improvement of children’s learning ability in "Simulated Families" of the welfare home.In this paper, eight children from eight families in the welfare home are used as the study objects, and the methods of interviews and observation are employed to collect data and conduct the demand assessment.Pre-test and post-test are carried out by means of scale and test to evaluate by means of scale and test the result of the study. To solve the problem of these children’s ability, such as having difficulty reading and writing, inattention, poor self-control,no sense of accomplishment, unclear target plan, the methods of case study and group work are involved.Varieties of forms of exercises, training, games, videos, sharing are adopted to boost children’s ability to learn. The evaluation of service shows that individual and group work in"Simulated Families" have great effects on the children’s learning ability, which indicates that social work using the scientific method to guide and supervise makes a big difference. In addition,at the end of this paper the problems and the limitation of the study are reflected and the successful methods and techniques are summarized for further study. |
